Barangay chief, 4 others killed in gun attacks

COTABATO CITY  , Philippines  —  Five persons were killed in ambushes in this city on Wednesday.

Police said Norodin Guiaman, chairman of Barangay Tuka in Mamasapano, Maguindanao; Basser Ampatuan, and Sindatu Agao were in a Toyota Vios when they were waylaid along the Notre Dame Avenue.

Guiaman’s wife Alwaida was seriously wounded and remains confined in a hospital.

Guiama Jainudin and barangay watchman Jimram Midtimbang were attacked in Barangays Buaya-buaya and Sebastoan, respectively.

Meanwhile, in Laguna, S/Msgt. Dominic Obligado, 43, of the Lucena police was shot dead by his business associate in Los Baños, also on Wednesday.

Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police director, said Obligado was having a drinking spree with his friends at his house in Barangay Tuntungin-Putho when Ruel Nabatilan arrived.

Nabatilan reportedly shot Obligado following an altercation.
