ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — A mosquito swarm forced the cancellation of classes in two schools in this city in the past two days amid the dengue scare.
City health officer Dulce Miravite said the Zamboanga City High School and Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School in Barangay Tetuan were advised to suspend classes to pave the way for fumigation of the classrooms and its surroundings.
Miravite said the mosquito swarm occurred after the drainage system in the schools were flooded due to heavy rains since Monday.
She said samples of the mosquitoes were taken to identify if the vectors could cause dengue.
