Chinese kidnap victim rescued in Makati
MANILA, Philippines — A 22-year-old Chinese man was rescued from his kidnappers by police officers from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Makati City yesterday.
Lt. Col. Arnold Tomas Ibay, who heads the CIDG’s National Capital Region (NCR) office, said they rescued Jiang Fan Li at the Emilia Building in Barangay San Isidro at around 9:45 p.m.
Arrested during the operation were Lee Arvin Apostol and Brian Requintina, who were reportedly hired by the victim’s employer, also a Chinese.
The rescue operation stemmed from a tip provided by a concerned citizen that a Chinese is being abused and held captive in one of the rooms at the building.
The victim, who has been working for a month in an online gaming company, was allegedly ordered kidnapped by his employer, a certain Ning Fong, after he failed to remit about 50,000 renminbi in earnings of the company.
Jiang told police he was headed to the Chinese embassy in Makati.
Aside from the two arrested suspects, six more Chinese allegedly involved in the abduction are being hunted by the police.
Charges of serious illegal detention are being readied against Apostol and Requintina, who are detained at Camp Crame.
