200 cops to secure San Juan festival

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 200 police officers will be deployed to secure the celebration of the 16th “Wattah Wattah” Festival in San Juan City today.

Members of the city police force and the District Public Safety Batallion of the Eastern Police District will be deployed around the city, especially at the Pinaglabanan Shrine where the celebration will be held, according to EPD officer-in-charge Col. Florendo Quibuyen.

Outgoing Mayor Guia Gomez said the celebration of the Feast of St. John the Baptist would be simpler compared to past years amid the water shortage in the city.

From the previous 50 firetrucks, only 16 would be allowed to take part in the traditional “basaan” or dousing of water in the streets of San Juan.

Gomez said local and foreign tourists are expected to join the event.
