MANILA, Philippines — At least 10 members of various militant groups were arrested when they interrupted the Independence Day celebration in Kawit, Cavite yesterday.
Kawit police chief Maj. Richard Corpuz said the protesters belong to Anakbayan, Bayan Muna and Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan-Kilusang Mayo Uno.
Corpuz said the militants became unruly as the celebration was about to start at around 7:30 a.m. and displayed posters condemning President Duterte and calling for his ouster.
Sen. Cynthia Villar and Cavite Gov. Jesus Crispin Remulla were the guests of honor in the event.
Corpuz said among those taken into custody were two minors, who were turned over to social welfare and development officers.
