Abu kidnap suspects nabbed in Zambo
ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — Three Abu Sayyaf bandits tagged in kidnappings in Basilan and Sulu were arrested in this city on Wednesday.
Personnel of the police, military and National Bureau of Investigation collared Canda Ibrahim Jamik and Majuk Amil at their residences in Barangay Arena Blanco.
Hasim Aming was cornered at the old public market in Sitio Magay, Barangay Zone 4.
Police said Jamik and Amil were charged with kidnapping with serious illegal detention in connection with the kidnapping of eight workers of Golden Harvest Plantation in Barangay Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan on June 11, 2001.
Aming was allegedly among those who kidnapped six members of the Jehovah’s Witness in Patikul, Sulu in 2002.
The suspects are under the custody of the intelligence division of the Zamboanga peninsula police.
The police and military have intensified their offensives against the Abu Sayyaf to prevent the bandits from staging more kidnappings and rescue the remaining captives.
The military recently deployed an additional 1,700 soldiers in Sulu to help crush the Abu Sayyaf and other terrorist groups.
The First Brigade Combat Team of the Philippine Army arrived in this city on board the Navy’s BRP Tarlac last Sunday for a courtesy call at the Western Mindanao Command.
The soldiers will form part of the newly created 11th Division.
