DOT adds gold necklaces for loyal workers

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) has increased its alloted budget for the procurement of memorabilia for 149 loyal employees from P1.2 million to P4.4 million.

An invitation to bid on the DOT’s website showed that the agency intends to earmark P4,397,000 for the procurement of 76 “signature branded wristwatches” and 73 sets of 18-karat gold necklace and pendant for loyal employees.

The STAR reported last week that the DOT allotted P1,245,000 for the procurement of “signature branded wristwatches” for its loyal employees in time for the Philippine civil service anniversary in September.

Neither DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat nor the agency’s spokesman Bong Bengzon was available for comment on the agency’s procurement plan.

The DOT’s bidding documents (DOT-BAC IB No. 2019-007) showed that 12 10-year awardees will get a wristwatch worth P6,000; 16 15-year awardees, a P12,000 wristwatch; 21 20-year awardees, a P22,000 wristwatch; and 26 25-year awardees, a P29,000 wristwatch.

Fifty-five 30-year awardees will get a gold necklace and pendant worth P38,000; 15 35-year awardees, a P43,000 set; two 40-year awardees, a P49,000 set; a 45-year awardee will get a P55,000 set.
