Militiaman slain by NPA rebels

SURIGAO CITY, Philippines — A militiaman was killed by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in this city on Thursday.  

Col. Diomedes Cuadra Jr., city police chief, said Ronald Contemplo, 21, was shot near his  house in Purok 1, Barangay Anomar.

Eight bullet shells for a caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the scene. 

At least three persons were murdered by suspected NPA guerrillas in Caraga in the past week.
