Premium taxi drivers to get regular pay

MANILA, Philippines — Premium taxi drivers will receive regular salaries and benefits under the new guidelines issued yesterday by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The DOTr introduced the taxi modernization program under Department Order 2019-007, which amends provisions for premium taxis.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said among the aspects of the guidelines are providing regular salaries for taxi drivers instead of the traditional boundary system and free internet access for passengers.

Tugade said accidents could be reduced as taxi drivers need not to rush on the road to get more passengers and flag downs.

He said premium taxis would be required to be Euro-4 compliant and air-conditioned.
