LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — The death toll when a jeep fell into a ravine in Libon, Albay on Tuesday climbed to 10 after four of those injured died while being treated in hospitals yesterday.
The Albay police identified the fatalities as Maria Suelo Bagulbagul, 41, teacher at the Apod Elementary School; school principal Maria Buendia, 46; bank teller Jonnel Potencio, 26; his sister Erica, 18; Teodora Rima, 55; her sister May, 15; Carlo Custodio, 21; Adelina Armillo, 66; Lolita Buenaobra, 60, and Lina Botor, 36.
At least 20 other passengers remain confined at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital and Josefina Belmonte Duran District Memorial Hospital.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, Rolando Olade reportedly lost control of the wheel while driving down the road in Barangay San Jose. Olade escaped after the incident.
Meanwhile, 15 people were injured when a van plying the Legazpi City-Sorsogon City route rolled over in Barangay Taysan in this city yesterday.
