Duterte awaits LRT-2 train crash report
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte is waiting for the report on the recent Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) mishap in Quezon City that left more than 30 persons injured, Malacañang said yesterday.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said Duterte is concerned about the incident and wants to know if someone is accountable for it.
“The management of that outfit has already apologized to the public and has conducted or is conducting an investigation on the matter. So we will be waiting for a report. The President will be waiting for a report of the incident,” Panelo said in a press briefing.
“The President is concerned, that’s why he is waiting for the result of the investigation – the whys and wherefores of the accident,” he added.
A total of 34 people were hurt after two LRT-2 trains collided between Anonas and Cubao stations last Saturday. The Light Rail Transit Authority has vowed to probe the mishap and to shoulder the medical expenses of injured passengers.
LRT-2, which connects Recto Avenue in Manila to Santolan station in Marikina, resumed operations last Sunday.
