MMDA to recycle campaign trash

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will recycle the 29 truckloads of discarded campaign materials hauled after the midterm elections, an official said yesterday.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said the campaign trash collected would be converted into bags, place mats, baskets and school supplies.
Lim urged environmental groups or individuals who want to help in recycling waste materials to coordinate with the MMDA.
Personnel of the Metro Parkways Clearing Group hauled 200.37 tons of poll trash since the MMDA launched “Oplan Baklas” in March.
The Commission on Elections has deputized the MMDA to remove illegal campaign materials in the metropolis.
