Makati councilor hurt in car crash

MANILA, Philippines — An outgoing councilor of Makati suffered injuries after he figured in a car crash yesterday.

Councilor Nemesio Yabut Jr., who lost in the congressional race, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Yabut was allegedly drunk when his Mercedez Benz (VFP-939) crashed into a crew cab of ABS-CBN parked in front of the city police station.

Maj. Gideon Ines, deputy chief of the Makati police,  said Yabut was traversing Ayala Avenue going to Yakal street when he hit the rear left portion of the TV network’s crew cab.

Police said they would not file drunk driving charges against the councilor in the absence of a breath analyzer.

“Pero nangangamoy alcohol siya nang mangyari ang aksidente,” Ines told The STAR.

Yabut lost to incumbent District 2 Rep. Luis Campos, husband of reelected Mayor Abby Binay.
