3 dead, 68 hurt in Quezon road mishap

MANILA, Philippines — Three persons died and 68 others were injured when a bus and a truck collided in Atimonan, Quezon on Monday.

Two of the fatalities were identified as truck driver Benedict Belencio, 29, and his companion Michael Sy, 28.

Quoting a police report, Quezon police director Col. Joseph Arguelles said the bus driver, Maximo Leoriego, 61, lost control of the wheel while driving down a diversion road in Barangay Sta. Catalina.

The bus was headed to Bicol while the truck was on its way to Manila.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is conducting a parallel investigation into the accident. – Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
