MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating a viral video that shows armed men, said to be police officers, beating up a man in Cebu City.
“If found that PNP personnel were involved or have committed illegal acts, we will never tolerate them, especially now that the PNP is serious in its internal cleansing program,” PNP spokesman Col. Bernard Banac said.
If proven that the suspects are police officers, Banac said they would be slapped with administrative and criminal charges.
The video shows the armed men punching and kicking a still unidentified civilian.
Those who posted the video on Facebook said the man was their cousin, who was held at the Talamban police station.
The Commission on Human Rights said it would also investigate the video.
