5 earthquakes hit Surigao del Norte early Saturday

MANILA, Philippines — Five earthquakes struck the municipality of General Luna in Surigao del Norte early Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

According to Phivolcs’ earthquake bulletin, the first tremor was recorded at 3:11 a.m. It had a magnitude of 4.6.

Another magnitude 4.6 quake hit at 4:08 a.m. followed by a magnitude 4.9 tremor at 4:28 a.m.

At 5:22 a.m., a magnitude 4.5 earthquake jolted the province. A few hours later, a magnitude 4.2 quake was recorded at 7:10 a.m.

The series of quakes that struck Surigao del Norte came after the province felt a magnitude 5.5 tremor on Friday afternoon. Phivolcs said there were no aftershocks expected.
