Cagayan barangay execs held for guns

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay captain and three other village officials were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and explosives in Amulung, Cagayan on Monday.
Ariel Madriaga, chairman of Barangay Dafunganay; kagawad Felix Madriaga and watchmen Adrian Panturgo and Jovito Madriaga were apprehended by personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Amador Corpus said the barangay officials are members of the militant group Anakpawis, who were under surveillance due to their suspected links with communist rebels.
A caliber .38 revolver, a caliber .45 pistol, ammunition, hand grenades and blasting caps were reportedly recovered from the house of the village officials. – Emmanuel Tupas
