MANILA, Philippines — Police apprehended five women for allegedly stealing over P52 million worth of gold and jewelry from their employer in Manila on Thursday.
They were Fria Apostol, 39, of Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City; Elinor Sibal, 37, of San Francisco Del Monte, Quezon City; Celia Paulino, 37; Honey Lyn Gacosta, 30, and Aprilyn Sinugbuhan, 29, both of Tambunting, Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Charges of qualified theft and falsification of documents were filed against them before the city prosecutor’s office.
The suspects’ arrest stemmed from the complaint of businessman Edwin Malibiran, 56, who owns a jewelry store.
After conducting an inventory on March 6, Malibiran told police that he lost at least 13,000 grams of gold worth P27 million and jewelry amounting to P25 million.
The suspects failed to explain the missing items during a confrontation, prompting Malibiran to seek police help.
The complainant said the suspects have been stealing from him since 2016.
