Manila Water customers complain of supply interruption

MANILA, Philippines — Some customers of Manila Water complained again of supply interruption in a few areas over the weekend.

Hours of water supply availability in the east zone varied as the firm continues to undertake operational adjustments to manage supply and pressure in its distribution system.

Manila Water’s eight- to 12-hour water availability slightly decreased to 98.47 percent from 98.9 percent.

“During weekends, demand is usually higher and the heat index could be another factor,” Manila Water communications manager Dittie Galang said in a text message to The STAR.

“This is because of the calibration of our distribution. We are still stabilizing our distribution system with the available water supply,” she added.

Manila Water’s deficit remains at 75.24 million liters per day as of April 5.

Manila Water and west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. are expediting the cross-border flow of water to boost supply in the east zone.

Manila Water is undertaking pipe laying activities along E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue in Quezon City to allow for the cross-border water sharing with Maynilad.

Maynilad has committed to share up to 50 million liters of water per day with Manila Water.
