MANILA, Philippines — The management Light Rail Transit Line 1 on Tuesday has lifted its ban on liquid items.

In a Twitter post, the LRT-1 announced the lifting of no-liquid policy in its stations starting April 2.

“The ban on bottled water and drinks in LRT-1 is lifted,” it said.

Early this year, train systems such as LRT-1, LRT-2 and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 implemented ban on bottled water and other liquids as part of their tightened security measures.

The MRT-3 management earlier said an alleged bomb threat it had received in January was “one reason” for the implementation of the liquid ban. It explained that any liquid substance can be mixed to form a liquid ban.

But the managements of LTR-2 and MRT-3 lifted the prohibition on all liquids last February 20.

LRT-1 ferries an average of 500,000 commuters on weekdays. It has 20 stations from Roosevelt Station in Quezon City to Baclaran Station. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
