Part of Magallanes Interchange closed indefinitely
MANILA, Philippines — A part of the Magallanes Interchange in Makati City would be closed to traffic starting today, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced.
The interchange’s upper level, or the left-turning ramp from Manila to Cubao, will be closed starting 6 a.m.
The agency has directed motorists to take the Magallanes Loop or Magallanes Village as alternate routes.
The heavy volume of vehicles at the interchange has been causing traffic gridlock and accidents in the area, the MMDA noted in its statement.
“Around 7,722 vehicles are traversing the interchange from Manila to EDSA Northbound while 19,304 vehicles traverse from EDSA to Nichols or South Superhighway that crisscross in the said portion,” the MMDA said.
The agency’s Road Safety Unit recorded 360 road crashes in 2017 and 292 last year at the interchange.
