Town councilor shot dead in Negros Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A councilor in Negros Occidental municipality was shot dead by alleged members of New People’s Army on Sunday morning.
The authorities said three trucks with around 50 suspected rebels entered the compound of slain councilor of Moises Padilla town, Jolomar Hilario, 51, at around 6 a.m. according to a radio report.
The suspected rebels allegedly looked for Hilario, according to his brother Araceli Ejerto.
Hilario, however, was then sleeping and declined to come out of his room. The armed rebels then fired at Hilario’s room.
The suspects also took the firearms and a bag full of money from Hilario.
The victim who is a Sangguniang Bayan re-electionist died of multiple wounds and was declared dead at the town hospital where he was rushed.
A radio report said no one was reported injured from the shooting incident as they were able to escape during the attack.
The authorities are still determining the motive of the killing.
Meanwhile, Ejerto said in a radio report that Hilario last year received a letter from the NPA, threatening him not to run in the upcoming elections. —Rosette Adel
