Maguindanao residents surrender guns

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — At least 28 firearms were turned over to the military on Tuesday in support of the disarmament program of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said residents surrendered the guns to the 90th Infantry Battalion during a meeting of local executives and military officials who are members of the Kapamagayon Inter-Agency Task Force.

Sobejana said the meeting focused on initiatives to ensure peaceful and honest elections in May.

He said residents surrendered more than 2,000 firearms, mostly rifles and grenade launchers, in the past six months.
