MANILA, Philippines — Due to El Niño, several cities and areas of the Rizal province would be experiencing “low pressure to no water” supply during peak demand hours, Manila Water said.

In an advisory posted on its website, Manila Water said that it will be “implementing operational adjustments that may affect water service across the entire East Zone.”

The advisory, however, did not specify dates or time of the water interruption.

The company said the adjustment on water services would “help arrest the rapid decline of the water level at La Mesa Dam,” following the announcement of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on El Niño.

El Niño refers to above-average sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, and is associated with below normal rainfall.

The state weather bureau said that El Niño is expected to go “full-blown” by the end of February or March.
