MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Army (PA) yesterday installed Brig. Gen. Lenard Agustin as commander of the 7th Infantry Division (ID) in Central Luzon.
Agustin assumed the post following a turnover ceremony held at Fort Ramon Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija and presided by PA commander Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto.
Agustin replaced Maj. Gen. Filemon Santos Jr., who took over as chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Louise Villanueva said the 7th ID has been active in curbing the insurgency problem in the region.
Villanueva said several former rebels and militiamen surrendered to the unit recently and availed themselves of the government’s local integration program.
Agustin was commander of the 20th and 63rd Infantry Battalions in Eastern Visayas as well as of the 201st IB under the 2nd ID in Southern Tagalog. He was a former assistant division commander of the 7th ID.
