Kin rally behind man accused of niece’s slay
MANILA, Philippines — A man accused of killing his 12-year-old niece, who was found dead with her throat slashed in Caloocan last month, decried the “hasty investigation” done by the police and denied the charge against him.
Reynaldo Urbano was in handcuffs, accompanied by his siblings and his niece Myrrhaquel Singson’s family, when he filed his counter-affidavit to the robbery homicide charge against him before the city prosecutor’s office yesterday.
Urbano’s sister Raquilina, Myrrhaquel’s mother, cried as she told The STAR of her fight to seek justice for her daughter “but also for my brother.”
Myrrhaquel went home early from school after her exams on Jan. 23 and was alone when she was killed with a knife at their house. Two of her cell phones were also missing.
Police, saying there was no sign of forced entry, arrested Urbano because he was the last person to be in the house before the girl was killed.
