2 Koreans, 17 Filipinos arrested for illegal quarrying
MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced yesterday the arrest of two South Korean men and 17 Filipinos in raids conducted in Pampanga on Friday for illegal quarrying.
Czar Eric Nuqui, NBI-Environmental Crime Division chief, said Gi Man-lee and Jeong Sun-mi, operators of Sammi Vibro, and their Filipino workers John Paul Sumat, Jory Sabacan, Alberto Lingad, Joseph de Leon, Sandy Vosotros, Alex Basilio, Fernando Tomas, Tyron Manalo, Mark Glen Reyes and Lamix Abogan were apprehended in Barangay Dolores, Bacolor.
Alfer Nueva, Rodolfo Pineda, Higinio Javate and Ener de la Cruz were collared at the BM Marimla plant in Barangay Calsadang Bayu, Porac.
NBI deputy director Ferdinand Lavin said the raids were conducted amid complaints of illegal quarrying of lahar sand in the areas.
