LIST: Parade, alternate routes during Lunar New Year celebration

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District recently released the parade routes during the Lunar New Year festivities on February 5.

The parade will take place in Chinatown, Binondo, Manila at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The MPD’s traffic enforcement unit said it would implement a stop and go traffic strategy during the parade.

Here is the parade route for the Chinese New Year on Tuesday:

  • Starting point: (1 p.m.) From Jaboneros/Madrid, left to Sto. Cristo, right to Lavezares (Millenium Bridge), left to Juan Luna, right to La Chambre, left to La Chambre Hotel, left to Sta. Elena, left to Juan Luna, straight to Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz, left to Ongpin (will pause at Quinton Paredes to await the Mayor), left to T. Alonzo, left to Soler, left Reina Regente (end of motorcade) 

  • Starting point of Chinese Federation: (3 p.m.) From National Press Club(Magallanes Drive), left to Jones Bridge straight to Plaza Ruiz (to join the parade going to Reina Regente)

The traffic enforcement unit also released alternate routes for motorists passing the areas interrupted by the parade.

Here’s the list of alternate routes for the Chinese New Year parade:

  • All vehicles coming from JAS going to Binondo area shall turn left to CM Recto to point of destination.

  • All vehicles coming from Jones Bridge going to Binondo area shall turn right to Escolta St. to point of destination.

National Capital Region Police Office chief Guillermo Eleazar said the police is ready for the Lunar Year festivities. He said 5,000 police officers would be deployed to secure the festivities.

The Chinese community will welcome the Year of the Pig which will last until Jan. 24, 2020.
