Inmate beaten to death by fellow detainees in Parañaque police station

MANILA, Philippines — A newly admitted inmate at the Parañaque police station was beaten to death by fellow detainees, who suspected him of being a police informant, on Sunday.

Benjie Villanueva Baltazar, 24, was declared dead on arrival from head injuries at the Ospital ng Parañaque. He was about to undergo inquest proceedings for a drug case.

He was beaten twice – at around 12:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. – by Richard Doria Baylon, 39, who is facing an acts of lasciviousness case; Andrew Gulapa Barba, 40, charged with illegal possession of deadly weapon; and drug suspect Belmar Agbuya Borja, 25, according to a report from city police chief Senior Superintendent Rogelio Rosales Jr.

The three detainees will all be charged with murder, Rosales said.
