Bomb suspect arrested in General Santos City

MANILA, Philippines — A man with alleged links to militant groups Maute and Ansar Khalifa was arrested in General Santos City on Wednesday.

Police said Jamio Sala, alias Jamiung, was collared at his hideout in Barangay Dadiangas East at around 7:30 p.m. He reportedly yielded a fragmentation grenade.

Prior to Sala’s arrest, police received reports that his group is plotting bomb attacks in General Santos during the holiday season.

Sala was tagged in atrocities by militant groups, including grenade and bomb attacks in Maasim, Sarangani and General Santos in 2016, that killed a police officer and wounded more than a dozen other people.
