LTFRB tells Angkas to respect SC order
The high court’s Second Division on December 5 issued a temporary restraining order against an earlier ruling of a Mandaluyong City court, which gave the greenlight for Angkas to operate in the country temporarily.

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board on Friday called on Angkas to respect the decision of the Supreme Court, which stopped anew the operations of the motorcycle ride-sharing app.

This, after the company said it will continue operations even after the high court issued a temporary restraining order against an earlier ruling of a lower court, which prevented the LTFRB and the Department of Transportation from arresting drivers of Angkas.

The TRO gave LTFRB and DOTr greenlight to apprehend Angkas riders.

“Ang nais lamang ng DOTr at LTFRB [ay] respetuhin ng Angkas ang pasya ng SC gaya ng aming pagkilala sa naunang desisyon noon ng Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court,” LTFRB said.

It also reminded Angkas to follow the law, which bars motorcycles from being used for public transport.

“Magbabago lamang ito kung gagawa ng hakbang ang Kongreso para amyendahan ang kasalukuyang batas,” LTFRB said.

LTFRB on Thursday resumed its crackdown on Angkas drivers. Violators will be fined P6,000 and their motorcycles impounded for three months.

David Medrana, Angkas head of operations, earlier lamented the issuance of TRO by the Supreme Court as it would put the livelihood of the company’s drivers at risk.

“This comes at a time when hundreds of thousands of commuters need the Angkas service to beat the worsening holiday traffic,” Medrana also said. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
