DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — This city was among five local government units (LGUs) in the country that received the 2017 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) in a ceremony held at Malacañang on Wednesday.
Mayor Belen Fernandez said the award was a testament to the city government’s Unliserbisyo commitment, which ensures that children in Dagupan are safe, healthy and happy.
“Today, our city makes history once more as we have been adjudged as the country’s most child-friendly city under the Independent Component City category,” Fernandez said.
“Today serves as proof of what we can all achieve if we work together. Truly, our city is continuously making history in building a legacy – a legacy that our children can genuinely be proud of,” she added.
The ceremony was led by President Duterte.
The Presidential Communications Operations Office said the PACFMC aims to recognize LGUs that promote children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation as well as ensuring child-friendly governance.
Aside from Dagupan, the other awardees are Mandaluyong City and the municipalities of Santa Fe in Nueva Vizcaya, Salay in Misamis Oriental and Tagaytay City in Cavite.
