Cell phones, weapons seized in Manila City Jail
MANILA, Philippines — A multi-agency team conducted a surprise inspection of the Manila City Jail yesterday morning in an effort to rid the facility of illegal drugs and other contraband.
The 173-man team is composed of personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Manila Police District (MPD).
They implemented the inspection, dubbed “Oplan Greyhound,” at around 6 a.m.
No illegal drugs were found but the team recovered deadly weapons, cell phones and cigarettes, according to Senior Inspector Jayrex Bustinera, BJMP spokesman.
“This is a continuing effort to reduce and even stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in the facility,” Bustinera told The STAR.
MPD Station 3 commander Superintendent Julius Domingo said police presence during the inspection was necessary to prevent untoward incidents.
