MANILA, Philippines — A total of 1,632 elementary students finished the 10-week anti-drug program conducted by the Eastern Police District (EPD) to keep them away from narcotics and alcohol abuse, an official said yesterday.
EPD director Chief Superintendent Bernabe Balba said Grades 5 and 6 students enrolled in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program.
“We initiated the program three years ago and it really bears positive results among the youth. I believe this is an effective tool to keep children away from drugs, vices and violence,” Balba said.
He said the DARE program also aims to promote a drug-free community.
DARE officers, in coordination with the teachers and parents, worked hand-in-hand to teach students in the eastern part of Metro Manila skills and knowledge in promoting drug awareness.
