Duterte signs laws declaring local holidays

MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte has signed 17 laws declaring special non-working holidays in certain towns, cities and provinces, mostly in observance of their anniversaries. 

The laws declared holidays in Ligao, Albay on March 24; Agoo, La Union (Dec. 8); Villanueva, Misamis Oriental (June 16); Los Baños, Laguna (Sept. 17); Lanao del Norte (July 4), Guimaras (May 22), Albay (April 3), Misamis Occidental (Nov. 2), Occidental Mindoro (Nov. 15), Cavite City (Sept. 7), Agusan del Sur (June 17) and Sultan Kudarat (Nov. 22).  

Also signed were laws declaring special non-working holidays in Padre Garcia, Batangas on Dec. 1; Cadiz, Negros Occidental (July 4), and El Salvador, Misamis Oriental (June 27) also in observance of their anniversaries. 

The President declared Sept. 2 as a holiday in Ifugao in commemoration of the surrender of General Tomoyuki Yamashita, the commander of the Japanese Imperial Army in Kiangan town. 

Sept. 21 is Press Freedom Day and a special working holiday in Cebu.
