MANILA, Philippines — Two people were injured when a funeral hearse slammed into a dump truck in Quezon City at past midnight yesterday.
The mishap between the hearse and a 12-wheeler truck transpired along Quezon Avenue at around 12:30 a.m., Quezon City Police District (QCPD) spokesperson Senior Inspector Rohaina Asalan said in a text message.
The hearse slammed into the truck, which was then maneuvering at a U-turn slot, pinning driver Philip Mendoza and his assistant, Aruela de Guzman, who suffered leg injuries.
A corpse they were transporting was thrown out of the coffin and landed on the truck’s windshield because of the impact.
It took rescuers several minutes before Mendoza and De Guzman were removed from the vehicle.
They were brought to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.
The truck’s driver, Rodolfo Ignacio, said in a television interview over GMA News the hearse was speeding before the accident.
According to reports, the corpse was being transported to its funeral when the mishap occurred.
The corpse had to be brought back to morgue so its clothes, ruined in the accident, could be changed.
