MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government yesterday closed down a gas station at the corner of Evangelista and Estrella streets for operating without a business permit, a few days after it reported a gas leak.
Acting city administrator Michael Camiña said a closure order was issued against Phoenix Petroleum after the city’s building officials revoked its gas station’s occupancy permit over the gas leak.
He said the occupancy permit is required before getting a business or mayor’s permit.
The gas station may start operating again after it complies with all the requirements and until the results of the investigation conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) come out.
A third party, hired by the oil firm, is conducting a separate investigation.
Phoenix’s gas station was temporarily closed last week after residents complained of a foul odor coming from it due to an alleged gas leak, which the BFP confirmed.
Camiña said they met yesterday with more than 30 owners of all gasoline stations in Makati to avoid a repeat of the incident.
