Manila North cemetery issues advisory for Undas
MANILA, Philippines — Burials will not be allowed at the Manila North Cemetery from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 for the observance of All Saints’ Day, an official announced yesterday.
Daniel Tan, director of the cemetery, said bringing of sharp objects such as knives, ice picks, screw drivers as well as speakers and gambling cards are prohibited inside the cemetery.
Vehicles will not be allowed to enter the cemetery from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2.
Tan said people would be allowed to clean the tombs of their dead until Oct. 29 only.
Thousands are expected to flock to the Manila North Cemetery to visit their dead.
In eastern Metro Manila, at least 800 uniformed policemen will be deployed to secure 15 cemeteries.
Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Bernabe Balba said operatives would also be assigned to transport terminals.
Airports ready, too
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said it is ready for the influx of passengers at the airports during the Undas break.
The agency said strict security measures would be implemented at 44 airports in the country from Oct. 27 to Nov. 5 to ensure the safety of travelers. – Non Alquitran, Richmond Mercurio
