Jeepney strike strands Valenzuela commuters
MANILA, Philippines — More than 300 jeepney drivers went on strike in Valenzuela City yesterday morning, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded.
Drivers plying the route of Monumento to Meycauayan and vice versa started the strike at around 6 a.m. to protest the city government’s crackdown on jeepneys that are “cutting trips.”
The Valenzuela public information office said the drivers’ practice of cutting trips is in violation of their franchises.
The drivers ended the strike after two hours.
The local government said the drivers should bring the issue to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
