Cop axed for hitting neighbor in traffic row
MANILA, Philippines — A policeman from Quezon City was relieved from his post after he allegedly assaulted his neighbor over a traffic altercation on Thursday.
Police Officer 3 Diony Corpuz, who is assigned at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 3, is facing an administrative investigation.
“We relieved him from his post while the probe is ongoing,” station commander Superintendent Alex Alberto said over the phone yesterday.
A report from the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) said Corpuz punched Ay Beam Amor, 40, in front of the latter’s 13-year-old daughter.
Probers said Amor was driving his car along a street when he blew the horn after a motorcycle overtook his vehicle. Corpuz, who was driving another motorcycle, got irked and punched Amor.
Fearing for his daughter’s safety, Amor drove the vehicle towards his house but the policeman followed them.
Corpuz then pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot the victim. A tricycle driver who was passing by intervened but lawman pistol-whipped him.
