MANILA, Philippines — Presidential son Paolo Duterte will gun for a seat in Congress next year.

On Friday, Paolo filed his certificate of candidacy to run as representative of Davao City's first district.

He was accompanied by his sister Davao City Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte-Carpio, who will reportedly seek re-election next year as Davao City’s mayor despite her strong survey numbers in the recent Pulse Asia pre-senatorial election poll.

Paolo earlier resigned as vice mayor following accusations hurled by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV linking him to the highly controversial shipment of P6.4 billion worth of  methamphetamines, or “shabu” as it is known.

At a Senate hearing last year, Trillanes accused Paolo of being a member of a drug syndicate, citing as evidence a “dragon-like” tattoo on his back. The younger Duterte admitted he had a tattoo but declined to show it, invoking his right to privacy. — Ian Nicolas Cigaral
