Teen arrested for fatal stabbing of teacher in Albay
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing to death a public school teacher and wounding two Grade 6 students.
Mylene Durante of the Oringon Elementary School in Pio Duran town and students Menchie Orbigo, 13, and Hazel dela Vega, 12, were sleeping in the principal’s office at around 11 p.m., when the suspect went on a stabbing spree using a 12-inch knife.
Although wounded, the students managed to escape. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.
“I wish the DepEd (Department of Education) and President Duterte can help us find justice,” the husband of the victim said.
Gilbert Sadsad, DepEd-Bicol regional director, suspended classes at the school for one week to provide a psychological debriefing workshop for students and teachers.
Sadsad also called on the police to provide security for students and teachers at schools in remote areas.
