MANILA, Philippines — Former Manila mayor Alfredo Lim is the official candidate of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) for city mayor in next year’s elections.
Lim’s candidacy was endorsed by PDP-Laban president Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III during the swearing in of some 7,000 members and leaders of Lim’s party, the Kapayapaan, Katarungan at Kaunlaran or KKK, as PDP-Laban members in Rizal Park’s auditorium recently.
PDP-Laban members, including former Philippine National Police chief and now Bureau of Corrections Director Ronaldo dela Rosa, Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Martin Diño and Makati Rep. Monsour del Rosario also attended the event.
In his speech, Pimentel lauded Lim for his ‘womb to tomb’ program, which he implemented when he was mayor of Manila from 1992 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2013.
Other programs implemented by Lim were the free college education at the City College of Manila (now Universidad de Manila), establishment of a public hospital in each of the city’s six districts and free medical services.
Pimentel said Lim would support President Duterte’s programs, especially the war on drugs and other crimes if he wins.
Diño said the government needs a strong ally like Lim, whom he described as “action man,” to continue the campaign against corruption.
Dela Rosa and Del Rosario called on the residents of Manila to support Lim’s mayoral bid.
