Bomb scares hit Iloilo schools

Jennifer Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  —   Two schools in this city have received bomb threats since Wednesday.

A green plastic bag, which contained what appeared to be components of an improvised explosive device and a mobile phone wrapped in electrical tape stuffed in a plastic bottle, was left near Gate 2 of the Ateneo de Iloilo-Sta. Maria Catholic School in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district on Wednesday.

Bomb experts said the supposed bomb contained only cement.

The University of San Agustin also received bomb threats through Messenger at around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday and 6:20 a.m. yesterday.

”We are keen on filing cases once we have evidence to hold whoever is responsible for the bomb threats,” Senior Superintendent Martib Defensor, Iloilo City police chief, said.
