Floods hit EDSA, QC after downpour

MANILA, Philippines — Several roads in Metro Manila were flooded yesterday afternoon following a heavy downpour that lasted less than an hour.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s Metrobase in Makati City reported that as of 2:31 p.m., the EDSA-P. Tuazon tunnel and EDSA- Quezon Avenue’s northbound lane in Quezon City were submerged in around 10 inches of water.

EDSA-Kamuning’s northbound lane, East Avenue’s westbound lane, Aurora Boulevard’s northbound lane, and Ortigas Extension’s southbound lane were also reported to be under around 10 inches of water five minutes later.

Motorists were unable to pass through the northbound lane of the service road along EDSA- Santolan and Samar Avenue-Mother Ignacia street after floodwaters reached more than 20 inches deep at around 2:58 p.m., the MMDA said.

At around 3 p.m., EDSA-Centris, Tomas Morato, Aurora-Araneta Avenues, Panay Avenue, Timog-Scout Tobias and Roxas Boulevard were reported to be under at least 10 inches of water.
