Another bomb threat hits Manila university
MANILA, Philippines — Two days after an 18-year-old student was arrested in connection with two bomb threats at the National Teachers College (NTC), a bomb scare struck the Universidad de Manila on Saturday.
A professor reportedly received a text message at around 10:25 a.m. that a bomb was planted on the campus.
Members of the Manila Police District Station 5 and Explosives and Ordnance Division responded to the scene.
Police searched the school premises for several hours but found no bomb.
UDM vice chancellor Ronald Herrera said classes continued, but tight security was implemented around the university.
Prior to this, Lezlie Ann Orteza, a student of the NTC, was nabbed for violating Presidential Decree 1727 or the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs.
Bomb threats also struck the Mapua Institute of Technology, University of Sto. Tomas, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Far Eastern University recently.
Police said the bomb threats were purportedly sent by the New People’s Army.
