MANILA, Philippines — A former barangay chairman was shot dead in front of his family in Pandacan, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Former Barangay 849 chairman Buanito Buan, 57, and his children were sleeping when five armed men barged into their house on Ilang-Ilang street and asked for their names at gunpoint at around 2:15 a.m., according to Police Officer 2 Marlon San Pedro, homicide investigator.
One of the men, who was holding a flashlight, shoved Buan’s eldest daughter Najhila Eylie and shot Buan repeatedly. The victim died at the scene.
Footage from the barangay’s closed-circuit television showed the assailants arriving in the area on three motorcycles and speeding toward Quirino Avenue after the shooting.
Najhila Eylie told probers her father’s former partner encouraged him to use illegal drugs. The relationship ended in May.
San Pedro said three bullet casings and two bullets from a .45 caliber pistol were recovered in Buan’s house.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
