1 dead, 44 arrested for drugs

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected pusher was killed and 44 others arrested in separate anti-drug operations in Metro Manila over the past two days.

Wilford Garcia, alias Ninoy, was slain in an alleged shootout during a drug sting at Garcia’s apartment in Barangay San Bartolome, Quezon City at around 11:20 p.m.

Probers recovered a .38 caliber revolver and sachets of an undetermined quantity of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu from the slain suspect.

Forty other persons were arrested for drug-related offenses in the city in the past two days.

In Pasig, Jordan Celestial, 31; Ramil Batino, 38; Jimson Reil, 31, and Regie Rosario, 37, were arrested in Barangay Kalawaan at around 8 a.m. as they were playing cara y cruz, an illegal numbers game.

When police frisked them, six sachets of shabu were found in their possession.
