863 Southern Police District cops undergo drug testing

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 863 personnel of the Southern Police District (SPD) underwent random drug testing yesterday.

 The police officers were tested for drug use at the SPD headquarters at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig at around 8 a.m.

Superintendent Jenny Tecson, spokesperson for the SPD, said the drug testing lasted six hours. 

“This is in compliance with the internal cleansing program of the Philippine National Police,” Tecson told reporters.

 2 Chinese caught with P6.8-M shabu

In Manila, two Chinese men were arrested by anti-narcotics operatives for alleged possession of at least a kilo of shabu during a drug sting on Thursday.

James Fung and George Chang Ping were nabbed by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) near the Rizal Coliseum at around 6:30 p.m.

Fung and Ping allegedly yielded P6.8 million worth of shabu.

More drug suspects fall

In Mandaluyong City, two drug suspects were arrested during a sting in Barangay Highway Hills.

They were Edgar Callos, alias Egay, 57, No. 2 on the drug watchlist of the city police, and Augusto Bila, 50.

Police said they recovered three sachets of shabu and P500 in marked money from the suspects.

In Pasig, suspected drug pusher Jezreel Bierra, 29, was collared in Barangay San Miguel after he allegedly yielded three packs of shabu. – Romina Cabrera, Non Alquitran
