LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — Unidentified armed men believed to be New People’s Army (NPA) rebels shot dead Friday nigh a barangay tanod (village watchman) in Camalig, Albay.
Roberto Montecalbo, 54, was responding to a call outside his house when he was shot at about 9:19 p.m., according to Chief Inspector Malou Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.
Investigators said Montecalbo’s son Sandy rushed outside their house after hearing the gunshots and saw the victim sprawled lifeless on the ground.
Early last week, two unarmed soldiers on board a motorcycle on their way to play basketball were killed in an ambush by suspected NPA rebels, also in Camalig.
